Just finished this year's photography electives. The project's subject was "Mutation", so the first thing that came to my mind was technology. I thought that as human, we tend to walk more towards technology than going back to our nature. I have seen cyborg designs before, like human-like mechas, and wanted to give it a try myself. I would say I love digital designs and digital art, and an artist I really admire is Giger. His subjects are mostly around human nature and its evolution in technology, robot designs and mecha-creatures.I have also tried to do another photography, a hand: half young and the other half looks aged, like we transform through the ages. I did not like it though, but I might make it as a mecha-hand, so its more related to the final cyborg girl.
I started by photo shooting one of my friends, who is the girl in the final design. God bless her, she has an awesome pose, neck and face shape for what I imagined doing. Also I drew different wires on an A2 paper, scanned them and split them to layers in Photoshop. Then I edited the photo colors and levels and layered it. I started with the face, then the hair, finally the background.
I really wanted the hair and face to blend in well with the wires. I always wanted to try digital painting and this was my first try! You get hooked at it right away, and once you start you can never stop! It is addictive, I love it.. I had over 20 layers, and drew with the mouse which was not comfortable at all! Wish I had a pen pad, it would make my life easier! I am pretty pleased with the result though, although I run out of time while doing it. I think I have done well as my first try in digital photo painting ! I would like to go back to it and add more stuff to it, hopefully.
